The British currency is the pound sterling. GBP = Great Britain Pound £
The pound is divided into 100 pence exactly like the Dollar is divided into 100 cents.
But instead of saying 1 pence we say 1 penny and it's written p. For example, 20p is normally pronounced twenty pee rather than twenty pence.

We have both banknotes and coins.
Current banknotes are: the 50 pound note, the 20 pound note, 10 pound note and 5 pound note.

Current coins are: 2 pounds, 1 pound, 50 pence, 20 pence, 10 pence, 5 pence, 2 pence and 1 penny.

Old money conversions to money used today:
-  One shilling (or 'bob') - 5p
-  One guinea - £1.05
-  Six pence - 2½p
-  Half a crown (2 shillings and sixpence) - 12½p
